The digital revolution, lined up with the social changes that have taken place in the last decades, brings together concepts such as self-learning and lifelong learning, as factors that intertwine with the paradigm of knowledge society and globalization.

The rise of online learning in Portugal led to the creation of suitable academic degrees. Therefore, it became relevant to draw the profile of the online student, as well as his/her distinguishing skills, which is the main purpose of the present investigation.

After  analysing the key concepts for this study, an online survey was created and deployed  to a target group, formed by students of the E-learning Systems Management Masters Degree at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Through the results of this investigation, we gathered evidences about the online student specific features and skills, which can become useful to the students’ success.
