THE MENTORING AND MEDIATION IMPORTANCE IN READING PROMOTION

ABSTRACT

The underlying problem to work is the change in procedures due to the promotion of reading and literacy, including through voluntary guardians of children, youth and adults. In recent literature, Vygotsky’s Socio-Cultural Approach and the Theory of Constructivism, stand out as important and the most appropriate to analyze the teaching of reading and learning field. The child is the result of the relationship and contact between her and the surrounding environment, and the promotion of reading by volunteering takes into account this relationship. On the other hand, the learner is at the center of knowledge construction and he learns with the mediator his reading possibilities but operates his own way. This research seeks empirical answers to the theme of the importance of mentoring and mediation of reading, by analyzing the national project Reading Volunteers. The analysis of the projects’ critical mass, involves goals as: understanding how to organize and structure the partner network; how to define and manage the projects’ digital support; and, how satisfied are the stakeholders. To study the subject we used a qualitative methodology. Data were collected through interviews and site evaluation grid and proceeded to the synthesis analysis of evaluation reports. The sample for carrying out semi-structured interviews was defined based on the representation of the different project areas of functioning. The W3C model - World Wide Web Consortium intended to evaluate the website design. An analysis grid of the external evaluation reports has synthesize conclusions. The analyzes complement each other. Research concludes that a well-organized network of partners and work with joint efforts, together with useful digital platforms for its users, enable the practice of a project of this nature. As for recipients, children from 6-12 years, individual voluntary attention that mediates a reading along or aloud, brings benefits to its development and satisfaction for all contributors.
